Apple’s iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy series are two brands that are always competing with one another as they want people to buy their smartphone over their respective competitors. Both smartphones perform well, have loyal fans, and have similar sizes, but they are different when it comes to how each smartphone is built and designed. As new phones come out each year, people have struggled with deciding which phone they want to get at a good price for value. In this iPhone vs Samsung comparison, we will look at how the iPhones 14 compares to the Samsung Galaxy S24, including the design, software, performance and value.
Before looking at the differences between Apple’s and Samsung’s phones, it is first important to look at why someone wants to buy their product. According to a Forbes article called “What Do Consumers Want in A New Smartphone?” Samsung’s Galaxy S4 included “Smart Scroll and Smart Pause” technology that allowed users to use eye and head movement to pause video or scroll without having to touch their screen.” (Versace 2013) Samsung added a unique feature that no other phone has, but for their users, would that feature make a huge difference in their experience compared to other phones, or would they want something that is more essential, like longer battery life? According to a Forbes article called “What Do Consumers Want in A New Smartphone?”, people are more drawn towards battery life. “The ability to go more than a day without having to charge or recharge their device.” (Versace 2013) Phones are able to run high FPS games and also let us watch television at a high quality instead of on a big screen, but it is at the cost of our battery life, as it has become normal for all of us to have our cell phones wherever we go. Things like having high brightness, a hotspot or data can drain battery life at a continuous rate. It may not matter to some people that our phones can run great, but if they do not last for more than a couple of hours, they may not feel inclined to switch to that smartphone. Personally, having our smartphones last for more than a couple of hours without needing to charge our devices is more beneficial for us since most of us are using our devices for entertainment or for useful purposes like making phone calls or checking our emails.
One of the differences between the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy is with the design and how the two phones work from one another. Apple has a simple, modern design. According to a book that describes the features of the iPhone 14 Pro Max it has “A polished stainless-steel frame and frosted glass on the back and front of the device.” (Nino 2023) Apple also makes it clear that their models give users design experience that comes with each model no matter how old the iPhone is. The Samsung Galaxy devices, on the other hand, tend to take more of a bold approach. The Galaxy S24 has a big screen with bent edges. These kinds of changes set apart Samsung in many ways. Also, Samsung has a unique design compared to iPhone. Apple iPhones have a simple but high-quality look on their phones. Samsung gives people more choices, like folding phones and normal models that are flat. As someone who has had the chance to try both devices with the iPhone 14 it was simple to set up and ran smoothy and compared to their older models that had a home button the new iPhones brought in a touch base feature, allowing us with the swipe on our phones to unlock it. Switching to the Galaxy it felt a lot lighter than the iPhone, but it was a transition at first finding the notifications and just going to the home screen was a lot different but as we had more time with the Galaxy. The S24 had lots of customization options making tweaks for optimizing the battery life helped a lot as it was able to last an entire day out without needing to use a charger which arguably would be better option than the iPhone 14.
Another difference between the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy phones is in their software systems. iPhones have software called iOS, which basically helps with bug fixes and security issues by giving all their users software updates which their users can install in the settings app which usually takes a short period of time but people have also had some complaints after installing some of Apple’s updates onto their devices, which include battery drain and just apps that don’t run as smoothly as they used to. With all that being said, Apple makes it seeming less easy to switch from an older model iPhone to their brand-new models. As for iPhone, there is something that’s called an iCloud in the settings app, which allows us to back up our phones so that transitioning to a newer model can be smooth without any problems.
Samsungs run on Android and have software called One UI skin powers. This comes big in the differences between these phone companies, as with Samsung’s phones you are able to have split screens. This allows Samsung to have flexibility compared to iPhone when it comes to doing multiple things at once. But Samsung phones usually stop getting software updates sooner than iPhones. Some of their models end up not having any updates after a few years. Some people may prefer iPhones who want something that’s easy to use and also for long-term use but that is only with the exception of the battery as if they are not being taken care of it can result in their iPhones draining it’s battery a lot quicker, while Samsung phones are better for people who want unique features and customization on their phones. From experience Apple iPhones will last longer than Samsung Galaxy for updates but if we look at the battery of each phone as someone who uses their phone a lot of Samsung is a lot better for high usages compared to apple.
When making a comparison between Apple iPhones and Samsung iPhones we do not want to forget about how each phone’s price compares to one another. For the iPhone 14, their prices can be over $1,100 which, in comparison to the Galaxy S24, can be found at near-identical prices, but the whole Galaxy A-series can be purchased for under $400. But if we were to look at apple’s cheapest options for the iPhone the SE it would just pass the $400 mark being around $429 or more, we would be sacrificing key features that we would not be needing to worry about for Samsung like a lower quality camera, a worser battery capacity and having the original phone button. For those who are looking to get a good deal on a smartphone, although getting a smartphone at a cheap price is great, it’s important to look at the features of the phone and how it performs compared to other smartphones and if the cost is worth the output of what we are getting. Some would argue that spending a high price for the best quality phone is the best option to go with, but for others who cannot just spend a large sum of cash on the latest smartphones and want to get a good deal on their smartphones, it is best to do research beforehand and look at consumers experiences so that they can based there needs off other people’s experiences. As for Personal experience, having the Samsung Galaxy 24 was a lot better than the iPhone 14 as it has better feel to the phone as the Samsung phone can run better than the iPhone, doing research and also looking at other people's experiences on the devices helped a lot on the decision of which smartphone would be best. A common argument that users said was that they would prefer iPhones since they already have all the essential apple products like chargers and air pods. But if some of us want our phones to be able to run faster like through video games or run smoother while on other apps for a long period of time the Samsung Galaxy 24 could be worth the upgrade over the iPhone 14.
There are good things and bad things about iPhones and Samsung Galaxy phones. Apple’s iOS helps with bug fixes and security with automatic software updates and is able to be updated on their older models as well, lasting longer than Samsung’s excluding the battery health. Samsung allows us to have a lot of options for customizing their devices. They also have a lot of unique features at different phone prices. For users who are figuring out which to choose, it depends on what their biggest want is, Apple is simple and lasts long excluding the battery replacement, and Samsung has unique features and is cheap.

Hi Kenny, I really like how you provided pros and cons for both phones even though you have a preference. Doing so made it much easier to read and I found myself more curious about your preference. It also allows the reader to have more flexibility choosing which phone they would want to get. Maybe they like the features of iPhones, or maybe they would like a longer battery life. I enjoyed reading your paper.
ReplyDeleteNice article, you seemed to break down the topic well. I never knew Samsung phones had so many unique features in them. For me I use an iPhone which like you mentioned in your article is simpler to use which is why I like it. Overall nice job on the article, the only thing I will be a critic about is that if there is any way to fix the size of your words you should, they are very small to read.
ReplyDeleteThis article was great and informational, i actually enjoyed reading this and the only critic i have is to fix the size of the words and other than that the formatting and pictures are great.
